Automatic Detection of Exudates and Microaneurysms from Non-Dilated Diabetic Retinopathy Retinal Images S.Sankaranarayanan, Dr.,M.Anto Bennet Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, VELTECH Avadi-Chennai600062, Tamilnadu, India __________________________________________________________________________________________ Abstract: Exudates are one of the earliest and most prevalent symptoms of Diabetic Retinopathy (DR), which is a serious complication of diabetes mellitus and a major cause of blindness worldwide. Certain areas of the retina with such conditions are to be photocoagulated by laser to stop the disease progress and prevent blindness. Outlining these areas is dependent on outlining the exudates, the blood vessels, the optic disc and the macula and the region between them. The earlier the detection of exudates in fundus images, the stronger the kept sight level. So, early detection of exudates in fundus images is of great importance for early diagnosis and proper treatment. In this paper, a robust and computationally efficient approach for the localization of the different features and lesions in a fundus retinal image is presented. Since many features have common intensity properties, geometric features and correlations are used to distinguish between them. First, the blood vessels are removed based on Mathematical Morphology and the exudates are segmented by using column wise neighborhood filter. We proposed a new constraint for optic disk detection by using circular fitting method based on brightest point. After filtering the optic disc, the borders are removed to detect the exudates. We also show that many of the features such as the blood vessels, exudates and microaneurysms can be detected quite accurately using this technique. The performance of the proposed system is carried out on DRIVE Database.

Automatic Detection of Microaneurysms in Color Fundus Images using a Local Radon Transform Method
Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most serious and most frequent eye diseases in the world and the most common cause of blindness in adults between 20 and 60 years of age. Following 15 years of diabetes, about 2% of the diabetic patients are blind and 10% suffer from vision impairment due to DR complications. This paper addresses the automatic detection of microaneurysms (MA...

Microaneurysms detection is an important task in computer aided diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy. Microaneurysms are the first clinical sign of diabetic retinopathy, a major cause of vision loss in diabetic patients. Early microaneurysm detection can help reduce the incidence of blindness. Automatic detection of microaneurysms is still an open problem due to their tiny sizes, low contrast and ...

In this paper, a method for automatic detection of microaneurysms in digital eye fundus image is described. To develop an automated diabetic retinopathy screening system, a detection of dark lesions in digital fundus photographs is needed. Microaneurysms are the first clinical sign of diabetic retinopathy and they appear small red dots on retinal fundus images. The number of microaneurysms is u...
متن کاملDetection of Microaneurysms in Retinal Angiography Images Using the Circular Hough Transform
This paper presents an automated method for detecting microaneurysms in the retinal angiographic images by using image processing techniques. In the presented method, in order to fade or remove the pseudo images, first retinal images are pre-processed. Then microaneurysms are identified by circular Hough transform. In the existing methods of dete...

Introduction: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the single largest cause of sight loss and blindness in the working age population of Western countries; it is the most common cause of blindness in adults between 20 and 60 years of age. Early diagnosis of DR is critical for preventing vision loss so early detection of microaneurysms (MAs) as the first signs of DR is important. This paper addresses th...
